Stimulation
In urological and reconstructive medicine, stimulation refers to the targeted stimulation of nerves, muscles or tissues in order to support, restore or improve natural bodily functions.
Areas of application in urogenital surgery:
- Neuromodulation: Electrical stimulation of nerves, for example in the case of an overactive bladder or chronic pelvic floor pain (e.g. sacral neuromodulation).
- Erectile dysfunction: Use of medical or mechanical stimulation (e.g. vacuum pumps, SKAT therapy with medication) to promote blood flow and improve erectile function.
- Rehabilitation after surgery: Post-operative stimulation of the pelvic floor (e.g. through biofeedback or electrostimulation) to promote continence and muscular control.
- Penile rehabilitation: After prostatectomy, regular stimulation is recommended to maintain erectile function and ensure long-term erectile function.
Target:
Stimulation is used to restore or optimize urogenital functions, particularly in the case of functional disorders, after surgery or as part of conservative therapy approaches.
