Scrotal aesthetics
Scrotal aesthetics refers to the external appearance of the scrotum – i.e. the scrotum – and to medical or cosmetic measures that are intended to change or improve this appearance. The term is made up of scrotum (Latin for scrotum) and aesthetics (the study of beauty).
The scrotum is a stretchy sac of skin that protects and cools the testicles outside the body. The appearance and shape of the scrotum can vary greatly from man to man – for example in terms of:
- Size and firmness
- Skin folds
- Visibility of the wires
- Presence of excess skin or an asymmetry that is perceived as disturbing
If men are unhappy with the appearance of their scrotum, this can lead to reduced self-esteem or a feeling of shame – especially in intimate situations. Scrotal aesthetics therefore deals with methods that can help to change the external appearance of the scrotum. These include, among others:
- Skin tightening (e.g. for severe excess skin)
- Reduction of the scrotum (surgical, e.g. in the case of a very large or sagging scrotum)
- Smoothing of the skin (e.g. through laser treatments)
- Hair removal (e.g. using laser or IPL technology)
- Treatment of visible veins or pigment spots
These procedures are usually purely cosmetic in nature, but can also be medically advisable – for example, in cases of severe skin sagging that leads to skin irritation or restricted movement.
