Outpatient or inpatient
What is the difference?
When a medical procedure or treatment is planned, the question often arises: will it be carried out on an outpatient or inpatient basis? The difference lies in the length of stay at the medical facility.
Outpatient means:
You will be treated on the same day and can go home on the same day. This is the case, for example, for minor operations or examinations that do not require overnight monitoring.
Stationary means:
You will stay at least one night in the hospital or clinic so that your health can be monitored – e.g. in the event of major surgery, increased risk or if you need special care.
Whether a procedure is performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis depends on various factors – such as the type of treatment, your general state of health and also your personal wishes.
