Men's doctor / men's counseling
A men’s doctor is a medical specialist who specializes in the health needs of men. As a rule, this is a urologist, i.e. a doctor who deals with the urinary tract and male reproductive organs. In a broader sense, however, andrologists – specialists in men’s health, in particular fertility and hormone balance – can also fall under the term men’s doctor.
Men’s counseling is a supplementary or independent counseling service that deals with the physical, psychological and social issues of men. It can have a medical, psychological, psychosocial or preventative (prophylactic) focus.
Typical issues that men turn to a men’s doctor or a men’s counseling service with are:
- Erectile dysfunction(medical term: erectile dysfunction)
- Fertility problems (e.g. unfulfilled desire to have children)
- Hormonal changes, such as a testosterone deficiency
- Questions about sexuality or gender identity
- Mental stress, such as stress, depression or the feeling of being overwhelmed
- Screening examinations for the prostate, testicles and other organs
- Life counseling for separation, fatherhood or professional pressure
Men’s counseling often takes a holistic approach that not only treats physical symptoms, but also takes mental health and the social environment into account. It can be offered in medical practices, counseling centers, clinics or online.
