Men's clinics
Men’s clinics are specialized medical facilities that focus on the holistic treatment of men and their specific health problems. They offer a combination of different specialties to treat physical, mental and social aspects of men’s health under one roof.
Specialists from the following fields often work in men’s clinics:
- Urology (diseases of the urinary tract and male reproductive organs)
- Andrology (men's health, in particular fertility and hormone balance)
- Psychosomatics (connection between physical complaints and mental state)
- Psychiatry and psychotherapy (treatment of mental illnesses such as depression or burnout)
- Internal medicine (e.g. cardiovascular diseases or metabolic disorders such as diabetes)
The aim of a men’s clinic is to meet men where they are health-wise and emotionally – with services that are tailored to typical men’s illnesses and life situations. Many men shy away from going to the doctor or don’t like to talk about their complaints. This is why men’s clinics often rely on a treatment concept that is particularly sensitive to men’s needs.
Typical treatment or counseling focuses in men’s clinics:
- Erectile dysfunction (potency disorders)
- Testosterone deficiency (also: “male menopause”)
- Infertility(medically: infertility)
- Prostate diseases (e.g. benign enlargement, inflammation or cancer)
- Mental stress such as depression, anxiety, burnout or life crises
- Addiction problems, such as alcohol or drug addiction
- Preventive healthcare and lifestyle advice (nutrition, exercise, stress reduction)
Many men’s clinics work on an inpatient basis (with a stay in the clinic), but also offer outpatient or day-care programs. Treatment is usually provided on an interdisciplinary basis, i.e. by a team from different specialties.
