Dermal Matrix
The dermal matrix is a biological tissue product that consists of the middle layer of the skin, known as the dermis. All living cells are removed, while the natural structure of the skin – especially the network of collagen (an important structural protein that gives the skin firmness) and elastin (a protein responsible for the elasticity and resilience of the skin) – is completely preserved.
This process creates a stable, well-tolerated tissue that is not rejected by the body as foreign. Instead, the dermal matrix serves as a kind of biological “scaffold” that enables the body’s own cells to grow in, form new tissue and permanently stabilize the structure.
In medicine, the dermal matrix is primarily used to reinforce tissue, heal wounds or fill defects. Typical areas of application include reconstructive surgery (e.g. after tumor removal or accidents) or plastic and aesthetic surgery.
The dermal matrix can be produced from human donor tissue(allogeneic tissue) or animal tissue(xenogeneic tissue, e.g. pig or cow). All products undergo special sterilization and reprocessing procedures to ensure maximum safety for patients.
