History

Some patients who come to us for the first time are surprised to see a limited company in the imprint and then an Irish limited company further down.

This has to do with the history of UGRS.

The UGRS was founded in 2008 by doctor Jörg Hagen to form a loose association of doctors acting under their own names. Prof. Trito, Dr. Konstantinidis and Dr. Jörn Siana. All three, already equipped with outstanding knowledge, skills and expertise in the early 1990s, devoted themselves to penis-related treatments, which were still considered disreputable at the time. Even in the nineties, doctors who dealt with the shape of the penis were looked at askance. It was considered unseemly to state that a penis could not always be perfect. Female sexuality and desires only played a subordinate role back then.

Over the years, a total of 17 doctors from several EU countries have joined this association, which continues to cooperate with each other today.

Initially, the patient secretariat was based in Birmingham, as Prof. Trito taught at the university hospital there. This is why, until a few years ago, a British limited company with the name UGRS Medical Limited was initially found in the imprint.

The UK’s withdrawal from the EU also led to changes in company regulations, which resulted in the establishment of the Irish company UGRS Medical Services Limited.

The demand for treatment from this group has been steadily increasing, and as Germany has a healthcare system that has been ruled unlawful by the European Court of Justice (ECJ), combined with significant barriers to so-called service provision in the medical sector, non-German colleagues have increasingly decided to still accept patients from Germany, but no longer treat them in Germany. If the German state is so poorly digitalized, so poorly organized and does not care that its healthcare system is contrary to EU law, then the German citizen who has chosen this state has a certain shared responsibility and must then take on a corresponding amount of travel as a consequence.

The original name UGRS, now a registered trademark, is an abbreviation for “The European Institute for Urogenital-Reconstructive Surgery”. Envious German medical colleagues, who saw a danger in competent EU doctors treating patients in Germany, took legal action against the use of this name in Germany. In a ludicrous ruling that contravened EU law, the use of the name in Germany – i.e. the word “Institute” – was banned because in Germany it would stand for a university. Which is ludicrous, because in Spain it means “fitness studio”, which means something different in each of the 26 EU countries, depending on the language. But one or two German judges apparently still see Germany as the hub of the world, and the foreign service providers of the UGRS were simply too stupid to lower themselves to the same level of argumentation and increasingly turned their backs on Germany. Because the European Union is big. And the countries of origin of the UGRS EU doctors are also of great importance.

The demand for high-quality, complex operations and treatments from Germany remains very high and is constantly increasing. The limited German healthcare system, which has the problem that the training of new doctors takes place within the narrow confines of the statutory healthcare system, is unable to offer this quality of treatment.

As an example to illustrate this: In 2013, the Hamburg Regional Court found in an expert opinion from the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf that the UGRS doctor responsible for the reconstructive treatment of Peyronie’s disease operates on 500 cases per year, while the leading German doctor in this field in Germany only operates on 12 – but nevertheless claimed to be an expert in the treatment of this disease via the specialist society for urology.

There is certainly nothing to add to this.

In the end, Germany has not done its own citizens any favors with its regulations, because now the respective German patient who wants an operation by a UGRS doctor – except for penis enlargement operations – has to travel and thus bear the additional costs.

The owner and managing director of UGRS, doctor Jörg Hagen, positioned the organization primarily in Germany, which is why UGRS International Services GmbH was founded.

We regularly ask our patients (anonymously!) about their satisfaction with penis enlargement surgery for internal quality assurance purposes. Previously carried out by external service providers, we now carry out these surveys ourselves so that any problems can be addressed much more effectively.

The last survey (evaluation 11/ 2024), which we conducted using self-designed questionnaires – which are much more useful for us in terms of gaining knowledge than questionnaires formulated by external companies that only have a superficial knowledge of penis enlargement -, carried out about three months after the operation, revealed the following with regard to the 4 main factors:

Satisfaction with on-site support before the operation: 4.9

Professional competence of doctors and staff: 5

Satisfaction with the result: 4.8

Satisfaction with care after the operation: 5

(choice of quality levels 1-5; 50 patients participated randomly and sent in their questionnaires anonymously)

Result: 4.93 out of 5.0
